Directionless Council `tightens’ noose on coaches | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 07: Absolutely directionless, the autonomous sports body of J&K State Sports Council has tightened noose on the coaches posted at different coaching centers of Jammu district by issuing fresh `unjustified’ guidelines. The Council, which is otherwise clueless with regard to long term cohesive planning to promote sports, has made its over 30 male and female coaches sit in the office of Sports Officer for two hours between 1 pm to 3 pm in addition to their routine morning and evening classes. This `unfair’ order issued by the Chief Sports Officer, MS Baba, who himself has served as coach, brewing large scale resentment among the coaches fraternity. “We have been forced to skip our lunch as the reporting time for two-hour `illegal’ and `unjustified’ confinement at the office of Sports Officer starts at 1 pm. There is hardly any good reason for our stay and sitting idle for such a long time is unfair. Furthermore, we have not been provided needed space to spend two hours,” an annoyed senior coach told SAN pleading anonymity. On being enquired what motivates him to issue such a direction, the Chief Sports Officer, said, “I have come to know that some coaches often stay away from their coaching centers to run own business concerns or provide coaching at educational institutions in lieu of financial gains, so a decision was taken to make them busy.” However, the coaches had a different story to tell. They opined that the order was issued by the officers just to satisfy their ego as the stay at the Sports Officer’s chamber was nothing to do with coaching or results thereof. “We are in favour of identification of such culprits who run business concerns during coaching hours. But for selected individuals, punishment to all is no way justified. So, the higher ups in the Sports Council must give a thought to the baseless order,” said another senior coach of the Sports Council. Fearing action in the hands of officers, the coaches had start bringing with them the lunch but lack of privacy to take it, left them empty stomach. “How a coach can impart training to students empty stomach. So, I do not see any justification in such a harsh order by the Chief Sports Officer,” a Ramesh Kumar, a parent while expressing his sympathy with the coaches. However, the Sports Officer, Jammu, Rajan Sharma, who has been authorized to take afternoon attendance of these coaches, said that there was no such order in force at present. “We had issued such an order for trial purposes last month but at present there is no such order in effect,” said Rajan Sharma. It is pertinent to mention here that the Sports Council has directed the coaches posted in Jammu district to take their two-hour class in the morning, followed by a two-hour stay in the office of the Sports Officer and then straightway leave for their respective coaching centers for a hour-hour training session.
