Mega cultural bonanza at Jammu on Lohri Festival-2012 Div Com discusses arrangements

JAMMU, JANUARY 07- To discuss the arrangements being made by the administration for the celebration of the Lohri Festival on 12th and 13th of January, the Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr. Pawan Kotwal convened a meeting of senior officers of various departments here this afternoon.
The festival is being organized by the Tourism Department in collaboration with Trade and Travel Industry and Raghunath Bazzar Business Association to showcase the cultural heritage of Jammu.
Speaking on the occasion, the Divisional Commissioner said that the such type of events are being organized to showcase the unique cultural ethos of Jammu besides promoting cultural tourism in the state.
It was decided in the meeting that the Lohri Festival would be inaugurated on 12th January, 2012 at 2 P.M at Kala Kendra followed by inauguration of Photo exhibition, cultural shows and release of colourful balloons to give festive look to the city of temples. It was also told that the events like exhibition of photographs by Tourism and Information Department, Ethnic food stalls, cultural show by Song and Drama Division, illumination of Bagh-e-Bahu, food stalls by Hotel Associations/Private parties/JKTDC, Bonfire etc would be arranged at Kala Kendra and Bagh-e-Bahu on both the days. Dr. Kotwal said that to give festive look, all the bazzars would be illuminated by different Bazar business associations. He said that prizes in the shape of trophies would also be given for best illumination and traditional decoration.
Among others Director Tourism, Mr. R. S. Mehta, Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation, Mr. S. C. Sawhney, GM, JKTDC Mrs. Rift Kohli, Deputy Director Information (PR), Jammu, Mr. Suram C. Sharma, SE PHE, Mr. Vinod Luthra, President Jammu Prayattan Vikas Manch, Mr. Ravi Mahajan, President RBBA, Mr. Surinder Mahajan and other officers of various departments were present.
