Sports Council's `tightened noose' leaves coaches fuming | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 7: in a bid to streamline the sports activities, the J&K State Sports Council has tightened noose on the coaches posted at different coaching centres of Jammu district by issuing fresh guidelines. The act has sparked resentment within the sports cadre, sources said. The Council, with regard to long term cohesive planning to promote sports, has made its over 30 male and female coaches sit in the office of Sports Officer for two hours between 1 pm to 3 pm in addition to their routine morning and evening classes. The fresh order reportedly issued by the Chief Sports Officer, has attracted resentment among the coaches fraternity in state. "We have been forced to skip our lunch as the reporting time for two-hour confinement at the office of Sports Officer starts at 1 pm. There is hardly any good reason for our stay and sitting idle for such a long time, a coach on promised anonymity said and further termed it 'unfair.' While authorities blame that some coaches often stay away from their coaching centres to run own business concerns or provide coaching at educational institutions to have easy money the coaches had a different story to tell and term it as an 'ego clash' However, the Secretary J&K Sports Council Kiran Wattal said that the order has been implemented to monitor the activities of coaches viz a viz to facilitate coordination between the office and the coaching staff. "The arrangement of afternoon attendance has been put in place to give directions and take daily reports from the coaches… The order will also help in monitoring the coaching staff's progress with regard to various training camps for the players," said Wattal. It is pertinent to mention here that the Sports Council has directed the coaches posted in Jammu district to take their two-hour class in the morning, followed by a two-hour stay in the office of the Sports Officer and then straightway leave for their respective coaching centres for a two to three hour long training session.
