Vaishnodevi yatra suspended due to slippery conditions on track, 7 pilgrims hurt | | | Ajay Sharma KATRA, Jan 8: Pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Mata Vaishnodevi remained suspended today because of the slippery conditions that had developed on the Katra-Bhavan track due to heavy snowfall. The bhavan and a stretch of the track experienced heavy snowfall on Friday and early Saturday morning. Since the weather remained clear today, the snow melted, causing slip on the track, official sources said. At leaset seven pilgrims sustained injuries after they slipped in snow and fell on the cemented track in Panchi Point area near Shanjichat, the sources added. Soon after the authorities came to know about the incident, they ordered the suspension of the yatra till the track was cleared of snow. Sources said the yatra remained suspended for the day and had not resumed till late tonight. No one was allowed to leave the town for the bhavan, the sources added. Sources said weather permitting, the stranded pilgrims would be allowed to go on the pilgrimage Monday. The injured were identified as Rajni (40) of Rajasthan, Gourav (30) of Moradabad, Gopal (38) of Delhi, Pinki (24) of Delhi, Mamta (32) of Haryana, Bharat Bhushan (41) of Delhi and Surinder Sharma (29) of Delhi. While Mamta and Surinder were undergoing treatment at the GMCH in Jammu, the others were admitted to the hospital here. |
