Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 8: Kind Attention Omar Abdullah! Even while your direction to PDD officials, to disconnect the power supply to VVIPs including his own residential Bunglow at Gupkar Road in Srinagar from Essential Service Feeder and divert the same to hospitals and other essential installations, has been widely appreciated but what about misuse of power supply and also open power theft being done in the official Kothis/Bunglows of most of the ministers in your cabinet, here in Jammu.
Amazingly, the senior officials of Power Development Department (PDD) are "deliberately" maintaining their silence over the issue as they too fear to face the music if they point out any "VVIP violator".
On Saturday, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah ordered disconnection of power supply to his residential house and other VIP areas from the essential service feeder and directed the PDD not to make any preference in supplying electricity to VIP areas when the power supply to entire Kashmir valley is disrupted as a result of snowfall. He immediately directed disconnection of power supply to his residential house and these VIPs areas till the restoration of electricity supply to entire Valley. He further directed PDD to give preference to hospitals and essential installations in supplying electricity till damage caused to transmission lines as a result of snowfall is repaired and electricity is restored back.
Surprisingly, here in the winter capital, there is no check on regular power theft taking place at the official residences of several Ministers, Ministers of State and important persons given MoS rank status.
Highly placed sources revealed to ET, while field officers in PDD including Junior Engineers, Meter Readers and Linemen are keeping close watch on power theft liking illegal connections in the shape of Kundis but no one dares to enter the official premises of VVIPs, for obvious reasons.
"Use of high voltage heaters for cooking purposes is main power theft which the subordinate staff deputed with VVIPs is doing every day. They avoid purchasing LPG cooking gas cylinders and opt for power supply through Kundis," shared sources further adding that "to kill the chill, they keep the heaters on, during the entire night, thereby causing power theft."
Pertinent to mention here that all such expenses worth lakhs are being paid by government every year and still such bills are pending for clearance to PDD. Will Chief Minister Omar Abdullah take cognizance of such power thefts occurring no where else than at the official residences of VVIPs?
