| Prestigious business houses booked for using self made MRP stickers | | |

JAMMU, Jan 8: Various business establishments including readymade garments stores, sports and furniture houses among others were booked by Legal Metrology department for using self made stickers of MRP.
As per sources in Legal Metrology Department, the raids were an effort to protect gullible consumers from being fleeced by un-scrupulous traders. They said that Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jammu Sanjeev Verma today constituted special teams of officers of legal metrology, revenue, drug & food organization to conduct extensive checking in the Jammu City under the supervision of Additional DC Rohit Khajuria.
Raiding team conducted inspection of traders dealing with readymade garments for children’s, sports items, furniture, electric appliances, restaurants, provisional stores and other vendors dealing with eatables in Residency road and Channi area. In one of the famous stores of children garments, which has branches at Residency road and at Gandhi Nagar extension, team found that self-imposed stickers being used by the trader himself while price fixed by manufacturer was not marked on pre-packed garments.
The use of stickers for declaring mandatory declarations like MRP, PKD, address of manufacturer is an offence under the relevant provisions of the Weights & Measures Act read with Packaged Commodity rules. The deceptive packages were seized and trader was asked to produce bills in original for verification in the office of Deputy Controller Legal metrology, Jammu, so that genuineness of price can be established.
In another famous sports shop at residency road, a number of sports items used by the children were found being sold by the trader without displaying MRP and other relevant information required for the information of the consumers. Furniture house at residency road was also found selling Chinese furniture and other pre-packed items without mandatory declarations and charging consumers at his own whims. Under PCR, name of importer along with help line number is mandatory for the information of Consumers. |
