EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 8:

Former minister and Member AICC Abdul Gani Vakil today congratulated Omar Abdullah led coalition government in the state for completing three successful years.
He said a lot has been done during past three years but to meet the aspirations of people a lot needs to be done. The biggest achievement of these three years he said was successful holding of Panchayat elections after over three decades and described it path breaking decision in decentralizing the power and involving people at grass roots in the governance
Addressing a large public meeting in Sanik Colony Jammu today, Vakil maintained successful completion of Panchayat elections in Jammu and Kashmir was a long cherished dream of former Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi. He however said that without extending 73rd amendment to the Panchayati Raj system, the elected representatives would never be empowered in true sense and basic purpose of decentralization of powers would also become redundant.
While hardening his stand against corruption in the sate Vakil demanded setting up of an independent commission to probe into the assets of disproportionate assets of politicians, ministers, ex-ministers and other public servants across the board as some ministers and ex-ministers who are involved in corrupt practices have sought stay against State Accountability Commission (SAC) proceedings and made it defunct and non functional.
Vakil said corruption has made life of poor people miserable and government should leave no stone unturned in eradicating corruption menace so that the common man gets justice and asserted that it would be amongst the biggest achievement of present government headed by Omar Abdullah if government takes corruption issue seriously and take those elements to task and dealt them with iron hand whosoever will be involved whether any politician, minister, ex- minister or any bureaucrat.
While addressing the gathering Senior Congress leader and Ex- MP Janak Raj Gupta congratulated NC – Congress coalition for successful completion of three years but stressed upon the Chief Minister to fulfil his commitment of absorbing 50,000 youth in different departments as promised and also demanded immediate implementation of employment package given by the centre to the state.
