| Use choppers to start rescue operations in hilly areas of Doda: Wani | | |

JAMMU, Jan 8:
MLA Doda Abdul Majid Wani while expressing serious concern over miseries of people caused due to heavy snowfall in Doda district, has requested the state authorities to expedite relief and rescue operations.
He said communication system to remote and hilly areas stands collapsed, today. All internal links have been washed away. There is severe shortage of food grains and fodder in hilly areas. Poor people, who mostly rely on daily labour, are without any source of income for days together. It has become really difficult to shift seriously ill patients to hospitals. Roofs of a number of rural houses have crumbled down. It is really difficult to assess the gravity of loss of human lives, living stock and cattle. There is an immediate need for starting relief & rescue operations in totally cut off hilly areas through use of choppers. Regular sorties of choppers should be arranged for air dropping of ration, fuel and woollen cloths and lifting of seriously ill patients to the nearest hospitals.
MLA Doda also asked the district administration to keep a check over prices of LPG, fuel, woollen clothes and daily-use commodities, which have become expensive even in Doda city. |
