| Soz assures supports for rejuvenation of handicrafts | | | Srinagar, Jan 14 Union Minster for Water Resources, Professor Saif-ud-Din Soz has reiterated the resolve of the Central government to give boost to handicrafts in Jammu and Kashmir and improve the economy of artisans. Opening a day long workshop on languishing craft “Khatamband” in Kashmir, organized by Development Commissioner Handicrafts Government of India at SKICC today, the Minister called upon the Bankers to provide loan facility to the artisans on low interest adding that forest department should initiate measures for providing fine quality of wood to the craftsmen of the state. He enjoined upon the participating artisans to work with added zeal and spirit for resurrection of the Khatamband craft. He expressed optimism that if artisans of state work consciously, industrial revolution can be brought about here. Mr. Soz assured the Handicrafts authorities of taking possible steps for organizing Handicrafts exhibitions in Delhi and other states of the country Present on the occasion were District Development Commissioner, Srinagar Mr. Ajaz Iqbal, Managing Director State Forest Corporation, Mr. Ajaz, Regional Director Handicrafts Government of India, Mr. A.K.Handoo, Director Radio Kashmir, Mr. G.H. Zia, President Chamber of Commerce and Industries Mr. Muneer and other officers. On the occasion, it was told that 4.80 lakh persons are associated with different arts and crafts in Jammu and Kashmir. Later, the Minister gave away commendation certificates to 32 artisans for displaying better craftsmanship.
