NSF demands vigilance probe against Varun Sahni | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 9: National Secular Forum (NSF) today flayed Vice-Chancellor for 'lavishly spending the students' money for his own comfort.' NSF alleged that University has made unusual spending on administrative expenses, official expenses, new cars and electricity in last three years. NSF president Vikas Sharma alleged, "JU administration has turned the institution as near defunct. The money of students is being spent blindly. The administrative expenditure has increased from Rs 1.41 crore to Rs 3.86 crore while official expenses have risen from Rs 1 crore to Rs 2.39 crore. Also, electricity bill has increased from 80 lakhs to 1.48 lakhs." Similarly, the expenses on vehicles have increased from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 69 lakh. On the other side, the scholarship bill has decreased from Rs 1.41 crore to Rs 1.05 crore. Similarly, the expenditure on books has also dipped from Rs 76 lakhs to Rs 35 lakh. It means University is spending more on comfort of officers and teachers whereas; the student community is made to suffer in last three years. Sharma said University officials were continuing with misuse of exchequer. Vice Chancellor spent over Rs 15 lakh on purchase of furniture for his office. The Vice Chancellor is spending money like anything while the students are made to suffer for the want of grants which is highly condemnable, Sharma quipped. Sharma demanded from Governor N N Vohra to immediately take account of the glaring facts highlighted in the report and order Vigilance probe against VC Jammu University. NSF also demanded to make public the high level enquiry committee report and initiate action against the officers of Jammu University who have been found beneficiaries. |
