Akhoon, Rana meet stranded passengers | 'Free SRTC bus service being provided on opening of roads' | |

JAMMU, Jan 9: Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Qamar Ali Akhoon and Political Advisor to Chief Minister Davinder Singh Rana today visited General Bus Stand, Jammu, and interacted with the passengers of Kashmir Valley, Doda, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah and Gool stranded due to closure of road in the backdrop of heavy snowfall in the state. Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Sanjeev Sharma and senior officers of Transport Department, Jammu Development Authority and other concerned departments accompanied them. During their visit the Minister and the Advisor inspected the langer established by the government for providing free meals to the stranded passengers. They also enquired about medicare, drinking water facilities being provided to the stranded passengers. Minister said that men and machinery are working on clearance of the National High Way round the clock and hoped that the road is opened till today evening. He assured the stranded passengers that as soon as the road is opened they can be ferried to their destinations free of cost for which the buses of JKSRTC have been kept available. On the complaints of the passengers about overcharging by the private transporters, the minister directed the Regional Transport Officer, Jammu, to remain stationed at Bus Stand to ensure that the passengers are fairly charged by the sumo and other vehicle drivers Minister said that whosoever is found indulged in taking undue advantage should be dealt seriously in accordance to the law. |
