| Chiranjib Chakraborty delivers enthralling recital | | | Chandigarh | JAN 14 Pracheen Kala Kendra held its 114th Baithak featuring a vocal recital by a United Kingdom based vocalist Chiranjib Chakraborty at Bhaskar Rao Auditorium here. Chiranjib, a disciple of Pandit Nidhan Bandhu Banerjee, Pandit Arun Bhaduri and Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty, is a promising vocalist whose music sparkles with the very rare combination of virtuosity with classical purity and deep sense of aesthetics. His gayaki bear the stamp of Rampur. Gwalior and Patiala gharanas and his tonal quality and control over sur and taal have received appreciation all over the world. He can also render the light classical music with equal ease. Endowed with a deep and resonant voice, Chiranjib started his concert with Raga Kedar that brought out the discipline over his vocal chords and his sensitivity in handling the Raga. He sang two compositions in this Raga. His vilambit bandish “Ab mein rahi ree… was set to ek taal followed by the composition “ Ab aa mill” in teen taal. Chiranjib then presented Raga Bageshree in which he recited Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan’s ‘Tarana’ “Na dha…” set to Jhap taal followed by a fast composition set to the time cycle of 16 beats “Peharwa garwa..” The artist’s tremendous vocal range and the ease with which he accomplished the varied and most complex taans, as well as his innate sense of artistic unity, received thunderous applause. He concluded his recital with a devotional Bhajan in Raga Mishra Desh “Chalo mann Ganga Jamuna ke teer…” Chiranjib was ably accompanied by Pandit Jayram Potdar on Harmonium while rhythm on the Tabla was marked by Tarun Kumar Chatterjee. Sh. O.P. Gupta and Sh. Vinod Sood were on Taanpura. On this occasion, Dogra Harish Kaila and S.S Anand Lehar were present as guest of honour.
