JKP-A stuns Maharaja Sports to enter final | 6th Christmas Gold Cup Football Tournament | |  Early Times report
JAMMU, Jan 9: Jammu and Kashmir Police `A' today stunned the top Srinagar club of Maharaja Sports beating latter 3-1 to make it to the final of ongoing 6th Christmas Gold Cup Football Tournament at GGM Science College ground, here. With today's win, J&K Police is set to take on equally good departmental side of Food and Supplies in the title clash for which a final date is yet to be finalized by the organizers-All J&K Christian Welfare Association. Earlier, in the second semi-final, played this afternoon, J&K Police took an invincible two goal lead in the first half of the play. Gurpreet scored the first goal in 33rd minute, followed by second four minutes later through Riaz Ahmed in the 37th minute. Entering into the second half of the play in the 90-minute game, clad in yellow, Policemen improved their lead, after struggling for quite some time, in the 71st minute. This time Yasin Ahmed netted the ball for team's third goal. However, fighting Maharaja Sports brought in a face saver in the last minutes of the game with Asif Qadu striking in the 87th minute. In today's semi-final, former Member Parliament, Janak Raj Gupta was special guest, who interacted with the players from both the teams and witnessed the game. Meanwhile, the organizing committee has yet to finalise a date for the final and valedictory function of the tournament.
