Traffic resumes at NH-1 after three days, Vaisho Devi yatra resumes | | | Early times REport JAMMU, Jan 9: After three days of blockage, 300-km long Jammu-Srinagar highway was today thrown open for the traffic, allowing the stranded vehicles to move towards valley. Officials said that light vehicles have also been allowed towards Kishtwar and Bhaderwah, while there is traffic on Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch highway has become normal. Officials said that following the improvement in the weather conditions and 12-hour efforts of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), first during the day light motor vehicles were allowed to proceed towards Srinagar and later in the afternoon, heavy vehicles were allowed to move towards the Kashmir valley. As per the official spokesperson, nearly 100 vehicles which were stranded on National Highway for the last 3 days were cleared and they have reached Srinagar. According to IG traffic around 60 passenger and trucks carrying essential commodities today left Jammu carrying stranded passengers and essential commodities items are likely to reach to Srinagar during 2100 hours. However officials said that in view of extreme cold and drop of temperature during night, no vehicle either from Jammu or Srinagar will be allowed on National Highway on Tuesday. As per the IG Traffic, the efforts are being made to clear the on-way stranded trucks, tankers carrying fuel and other essential commodities vehicles be allowed to Srinagar. Minister for Transport Qamar Ali Akhoon is personally monitoring the situation and get hour to hour report from the concerned authorities. Due to the snowfall, almost all the interior roads in Ramban, Udhampur, Kathua and Reasi had got closed and there was no electricity in major areas of these districts for more than 12 hours. Though electricity has been restored in most of the areas, but poor weather conditions are hindering the restoration work. Yesterday authorities had also suspended the Vaishno Devi yatra after heavy snowfall, but today with improvement in the weather conditions, it was again thrown open by the authorities. Nearly 1100 vehicles were stranded on the 300-Km long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-1) following heavy snowfall and rainfall which lashed the entire state on Friday. Officials said that the inter-district road of Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch and Jammu-Doda-Kishtwar were also closed in view of snowfall at various places. The Bhaderwah-Chamba road has also closed following heavy snowfall at Sartangal Pass.
