Life limping back to normal in Kashmir after heavy snowfall | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 10 : Life is limping back to normal in the Kashmir valley, where moderate to heavy snowfall, totally disrupted power, water supply and communication network. Despite the Power Development Department (PDD)'s claim about the restoration of more than 90 per cent power supply in the Valley, the people alleged that only few hour power was being provided that too in instalment. Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Asgar Samoon has directed the heads of departments to ensure cent per cent attendance of employees and asked them not to leave their headquarters without prior permission. He asked the officers to be empathetic while dealing with public and address their grievances within minimum possible time. A PDD spokesman said more than 90 per cent power supply was restored in the valley after the main transmission lines, importing power from outside to valley, from Kishanpura to Wagoora have been restored by the Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCI) and PDD. He said people were being provided power as per the scheduled before the snowfall on Saturday. However, people contested the PDD claim and alleged that the power supply was not satisfactory. Similar complaints were received from outskirts of the city and other district and tehsils in the valley. People in far flung and remote areas alleged that power supply was not restored after the snowfall. However, people in Srinagar and outskirts said there was no shortage of ration being supplied by the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA and PD) through registered depots. They complained shortage of LPG gas cylinders and price rise of essentials after the snowfall. Officials said there was sufficient stock of LPG cylinders for more than one week available in Srinagar. However, they admitted that due to closure of the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, there was shortage of LPG cylinders in district and tehsils in the Kashmir valley. They said trucks loaded with LPG cylinders were being supplied to districts and tehsils directly from Jammu. However, it has now been decided to send cylinders from Srinagar. The prices of essentials, including vegetables, coal, woollen and warm cloths has increased many fold. |
