`Kashmir is as safe as any other place' | Farooq woos Arabs | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu , Jan 10: The state government is wooing people in the Arab world to visit the `Paradise on Earth'. The Director Tourism, Farooq Shah who is currently in Dubai has been putting in hectic efforts to make the Arabs believe that Kashmir was a safe tourist destination. Shah said the stability of Kashmir could be gauged from the fact that 2 million tourists including 70,000 foreigners visited the `Paradise on Earth' during the preceding year. "A good number of Saudi families were among the visitors", he said. Shah heads a delegation of tourism and culture ministries currently visiting the Arab world. Farooq while giving an account of Kashmir's handicrafts said the beautiful Valley was also known as shopper's paradise. Pertinent to mention the Arabs avoid going to Kashmir because of security reasons. Shah assured that Kashmir was as safe a destination as any other place in the world. Farooq said the Saudis like Kashmiri houseboats also known as floating apartments. "They are no less than any five-star hotel," he said during a road show in Dammam. He said the state was the right choice for people looking for adventure. "Kashmir is the place for rafting, trekking and outdoor activities", he said. |
