"We have restored power in Doda and Kishtwar district and as far as road link is concerned, we have so far managed to clear the road from Kishtwar to Doda and hope that by this evening we will be able to restore it up to Batote, which will ensure the supply of essential commodities to Doda and Kishtwar Districts." Omar said during his interaction with media person at Kishtwar on Monday. Even though the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during his yesterday visit to Doda and Kishtwar assured that Kishtwar-Jammu National Highway will be thrown open for vehicular movement by today. However, the announcement made by the Chief Minister in this regard proved a mere rhetoric as no vehicle was allowed to proceed for Jammu by the officials of traffic department. The people complaint that all the vegetable shops, Kerosene Oil depots, Petrol Pumps and LPG centres are running dry which add to the miseries of common people. Despite clearing the internal link roads, both public as well as commercial vehicles mostly remain off the roads due to non availability of petrol in petrol pumps at Doda and Kishtwar. "I have to drag my vehicle for more than 3 KM to reach nearby Petrol pump, but to my utter shock all the three petrol pumps in Kishtwar District were found to be locked," Adil Hussain Baghwan said. Adil said that several other people also return empty handed since the petrol pumps in Kishtwar District are running dry. He said that last week's snowfall is the beginning of winter and said that government must take some measures in advance so that the problems which we are facing today could not be repeated in future. Meanwhile Commissioner Secretary Power Sudhanshu Pandey along with Chief Engineer M & RE Division Shanaz Goni visited Doda and Kishtwar today to access the progress on restoration of electricity in far flung areas of both districts. Pandey during his visit to Doda and Kishtwar chaired a meeting with officials of District administration including the senior officials of PDD department. Pandey during the course of the meeting directed the officials to expedite the work on restoration of electricity to the affected areas. A public deputation led by senior Congress leader Mushtaq Ahmed Hap also called on Pandey and appraised him about the problems faced by the people. Hap informed the Commissioner Secretary Power that lack of proper equipment and shortage of staff in PDD department is a major concern as far as functioning of PDD department in Kishtwar District is concerned. Pandey assured the visiting public delegation that he will personally look into all the issues raised by them, so that the genuine public related problems could be solved. It is worthwhile to mention that in many rural villages of Doda and Kishtwar Districts, the electric wires including HT lines are tied with branches of tress and thus puts life of common people living in rural areas at risk. |
