| PDP criticism constructive, Omar govt can learn from it | | Loud talk by other opposition parties rhetoric, unachievable | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 10: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has done it once again. Instead of taking opposition party PDP's criticism over the way he has been managing crisis in the Kashmir Valley in positive stride, he has hit them back, albeit in a sarcastic way . Even as he has tried to show that he cares damn about what PDP feels or says about his style of functioning, the fact remains he does care and gives a thought to each and every comment PDP makes about the government led by him. For Omar also knows it well PDP is the only party in opposition which makes criticisms not for the sake of it but is loaded with remarks and points which make sense and are relevant to the time and situation
Even though there are few political parties in opposition which very often makes criticism about present coalition regime but it gets lost in the din or remains unheard even in the quarters where it is expected to reach for more than one reason. PDP is the principle opposition party with second largest number of legislators in the J&K Legislative Assembly. It is also the party which is rival of ruling NC and has the experience of running the coalition government with just 17 MLAs onboard. In that sense it goes without saying the leadership of PDP is politically far more mature and has a better understanding of affairs in the state than present ruling dispensation has. Therefore whatever issues it rakes up against the government is based on some ground which it substantiates with facts and figures or the prevalent picture on any particular issue .
In other words PDP is the only party which does a healthy and constructive criticism , which is loaded with political punch , conviction and commitment. Needless to say that it bears an impact on the right quarters . What makes the government feel on throes is the fact that PDP makes criticism with a sense of full authority and assertive mode and the contents of the voice it raises on issue has some substance and content, no matter the ruling elite do not like it. It is a different things had ruling parties, NC in particular been taking PDP criticism in a positive manner it would been able to check where it is going wrong , learnt many things and in the process many a loopholes would been plugged in so far the style of functioning is concerned.
On the other hand, there those opposition parties which do make loud cry in the role of so called opposition but it seldom makes any impact for government knows it well that is only meant to be in headlines and in some reckoning. For instance J&K Panthers Party leaders do make some noise occasionally and in a bid to hit out at government they raise the issues , most of which have little or no relevance to the situations. Its voice is more often than not seen as rhetoric as some issues they raise are unachievable in the context. State unit of BJP makes constant noise, talks tough and raises the issues by toeing its central leadership line but it often gets unheard because of the individual agenda , most of time apolitical , disunited leadership.
It is in this context the Chief Minister Omar Abdullahs should better understand the criticism by PDP is genuine and has in its fold many things which can make his government feel on toes and learn many things. |
