Shimla shines with snowfall, as Patnitop, Gulmarg and Pahalgam are deserted by tourists | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 10: Hundreds of tourists have started arriving in Shimla in Himachal Pradesh as those already in Patnitop, Gulmarg and Pahalgam hill stations in the Valley are rushing back to their homes. This strange difference in the tourist behavior between the Valley and Shimla can only be explained if we have a closer look at the facilities provided by the governments in the two states. While Shimla has uninterrupted electricity and water supply at the tourist resorts of Patnitop, Gulmarg and Pahalgam have been without these two essentials for the last four days. This has forced the tourists to cancel their existing bookings and leave the two dream destinations of the Valley despite the fact that the recent snowfall has given a magical ambience to these tourist destinations. Dozens of tourists have been camping for the last three days at Qazigund in Anantnag district to find their way out of the Valley as the continued blockade of the highway prevented their departure so far. Tourist destinations of Gulmarg and Pahalgam cannot be compared to Shimla which is a much smaller place and far beyond in the picturesque beauty when compared to either Gulmarg, Patnitop or Pahalgam. But, given the inability of the State government to provide the basic amenities like electricity and drinking water, these hill stations are being deserted by the tourists when they should have been thronging these places in hundreds these days. |
