jammu, Jan 10: DGP Kuldeep Khoda's words "that J&K police were one of the best police forces in the country" did not match with what his men were doing in thanas and on roads.
While performing their duties, the men in khaki never hesitate to take law in their hands. They indulge in atrocities and then go scot free.
In the passing out parade of SIs at PTA, Udhampur, on Monday, Khoda termed J&K police as one of the best police forces in the country despite the fact that commoners here were being humiliated by cops at nakas almost every day.
No one dares to lodge complaints with senior police officers against such overbearing cops, fearing harassment at their hands.
DSP Mukesh Kakkar misbehaved with MLC Naresh Gupta some time back when the latter called him up to find out why police had detained a youth from Doda.
The humiliated MLC later moved Privilege Committee of the Council and filed a privilege motion against the DSP. While the privilege committee asked Kakkar to file his reply, he did not do so.
It is undoubtedly a matter of serious concern but DGP, or any other senior police officer neither ordered a suo moto probe into the incident nor made any comment.
When a member of the Upper House did not have any respect in the eyes of police, one can well imagine what they could do with weak and poor people.
Last year, a goldsmith was subjected to inhuman torture at Janipura police station as the SHO suspected that he had been buying gold from chain snatchers. In the torture, muscles of both the shoulders of the goldsmith were badly broken.
While the guilty cops in this case should have been arrested and booked under relevant sections of law, they were simply transferred to other places of their choice. This was the real face of the Khoda's best police.
Criminals and border crossers are killed in custody. To become best, or one of the best, J&K police first need to learn that they behave within the parametres of law. |
