NH-1A chaos: Traffic movement to valley 'directionless and disarrayed'
1/11/2012 10:22:55 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 11: Due to lack of coordination between concerned authorities confusion and chaos is prevailing on the National Highway as hundred of vehicles are moving towards valley directionless.
Reports said that Highway witnessed frequent traffic congestion resulting into bewilderment for the passengers on 300 km long highway.
Travelers on the NH-1A lamented that there is no coordination between the concerned agencies and often they are giving conflicting orders to the vehicles, which create lot of problems for the trucks and other vehicles. They also alleged that various check posts temporary created by the Traffic police on National Highway failed to direct the traffic in smooth way.
"Passengers are put to hardships for whole day without any proper arrangement by the administration despite the claims made by the government and they had to obey orders from different agencies", said a valley bound passenger who left Jammu after authorities announced one way traffic on the ever busy Jammu Srinagar Highway.
"Our first priority had been to clear the stranded vehicles carrying passengers and essential supplies to the Valley from Jammu. Today (Wednesday), vehicles will move on the highway from Srinagar to Jammu,' said a traffic department official.
He said no vehicle will be allowed to move in the opposite direction to ensure smooth traffic on the National Highway and to avoid traffic congestion.
Meanwhile, hundreds of trucks and other types of vehicles were stranded in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on the highway, waiting for their chance to cross the Jawahar Tunnel where the road conditions are termed extremely slippery due to flish.
According to reports a truck already skidded in slippery conditions is blocking the highway near Bannihal.
'The truck is being removed to clear that portion of the highway. Around 600 vehicles will move from Srinagar to Jammu today (Wednesday),' Brigadier T.P.S. Rawat, chief engineer of the Border Roads Organisation.
