BSNL's 'pesky service' irks subscribers | | | Fed up with the poor connectivity and other problems related to BSNL's mobile phone service, the customers are now getting annoyed with the kind of messages they are receiving on their mobile phones which according to some subscribers are highly objectionable. They said the SMSes circulated on mobile phones having BSNL connection reads, "For latest hot & spicy models pictures press linkhttp://bsnl.spicegang.in/spice2/." Such stuff which could pollute the young minds is least expected from a government controlled organisation, they added.
Kunal Shrivatsa JAMMU, Jan 11: Though Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is the first cellular service provider in J&K and is having largest customer base across the state, yet the largest telecom company of the country has failed to come up to the expectations of its subscribers here. BSNL, which introduced cellular services here in the year 2003 and even after in operation for the last eight years, the state owned telecom company is unable to provide a 'satisfactory' and 'smooth' mobile connectivity to its lakhs of subscribers regardless of its claims to offer a hassle free telephony to its customers. Some subscribers who approached Early Times maintained that all through these years, the reputation of India's largest telecommunication service provider has gone from bad to worse largely due to its own 'unprofessional conduct' and 'slackness'. Day in day out, the dismayed customers have plethora of complaints against BSNL authorities including poor connectivity, call drops, weak signal and countless others but to the utter disappointment of the subscribers there is no one to pay heed to their grievances. The subscribers further said that despite stiff competition from the private mobile service providers, the BSNL's service has not shown any signs of improvement rather it has become more 'irritable'. "We are fed up with the BSNL service which has failed to improve over the years…. There is no troubleshooting initiative from the largest telecom company…. For the last couple of days situation has become horrible as despite repeated attempts, calls made from cell phones failed to materialise. We could only hear a recorded voice saying 'the number does not exist, please check the number you have dialed' and 'the number you have dialed is out of coverage area," said an irked subscriber Sunanda Sharma Some subscribers lamented that local BSNL authorities even have failed to provide satisfactory answers over the reasons of poor connectivity particularly on festivity of Diwali, Eid or New Year. "I had a harrowing experience on this New Year eve since local calls, text messages as well as STD calls to number of BSNL and other private telecom operators' mobile phones faced high congestion and network failure," rued Naina, a student. "On being contacted at the main BSNL office at Bahu Plaza about the problem of poor connectivity, officials failed to give us satisfactory answers," she added. With subscribers getting no respite from the poor services, they have now started switching over to the private telecommunication companies and this process of shifting loyalties gain momentum with the introduction of mobile number portability scheme recently where a subscriber can change service provider while retaining his allotted number. "BSNL subscribers now have started to switch over to other private mobile service providers largely after the central government gave a go ahead for mobile number portability…. Keeping private SIM cards as an option was already in vogue for a good number of BSNL customers to beat the poor connectivity and signal problems," said Ram Lal, a government employee. "I did not shun BSNL, however, under such circumstances I purchased a new mobile set with double SIM option so as to stay connected in case of emergency," he added Pertinent to mention that parts of Old City, Talab Tillo, Bhagwati Nagar, Canal Road, Bakshi Nagar, Janipur, Roop Nagar, Kunjwani, Channi Himmat and the border areas of R S Pura, Vijaypur, Ramgarh and Bishnah are the worst sufferers of BSNL service. "I reside in Roop Nagar locality and my residence is situated at a good height, however, when it comes to the strength of signal the display on phone shows not even a single bar…. Call drop is frequent phenomenon in Sector 5 where I stay… In the event of making or responding to a call we have to look out for a suitable point where the best possible communication could take place… Most of the times we have to wait for several moments for signal bar's reappearance on our mobile screens," Ravi Tagotra said. "I opted for BSNL because it was the cheapest among all but unfortunately its wayward service has forced me to pick some other cellular service provider," he added. |
