Various educational institutes celebrate Lohri festival | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 12: Various educational institutes celebrated the festival of Lohri with traditional fervour and gaiety today. In order to aware the students about the importance of Lohri, a function to celebrate the festival was organized by Government Middle School Old Janipur here today. The celebration started with the lighting up of the bone fire. The staff and students participated in the function with enthusiasm and traditional fervour. On the occasion, 'Rewaries' and 'Gachak' were also distributed among the children, who enjoyed the programme. Students of GGM Science College, Jammu celebrated Lohri at college campus in front of Electronic Department. Students gathered in large numbers and celebrate the festival by setting fire the woods as per the tradition. Students also sang Lohri songs and sweets were also distributed among the students. On the occasion principal of the GGM Science Dr. Satinder Singh (principal GGM Sc. College was also present and wishes Happy Lohri to the students and give their blessing to the students. Staff members were also present on the occasion. Students present dance on the beat of Dhol and sang songs. Students of SPMR College of Commerce also organised a LOHRI programme. Prof J L Bhagat (Principal SPMR College) along with the staff members was also present. RM College of Education and College of Management & IT celebrated the Lohri festival and youth day as birthday of Swami Vivekananda in the college premises with great fervour. Students from all the wings were present on the occasion and presented colourful items related to Lohri festival. Trustee of the college Rita Mengi and Principal PK Dhar along with the staff members lit the bonfire and offered prayers for happiness and prosperity of all. Vimal Munni College of Education also celebrated Lohri Festival in the premises of college. The management, staff members and students of the college participated in the function. Earlier the chairperson of the college Anu Gupta lit the holy fire on bundle of woods, which was decorated with Rangoli colours. Religious songs were sung by the students and staff members of the college. They also danced on the beats of drums. The principal, vice principal, co-ordinator, staff members and students prayed for the peace and prosperity of all for the new year. |
