| ‘Swami Ji was a beacon of light for younger generation’ | | Mangat pays rich tributes to Swami Vivekananda | | JAMMU, Jan 14 Paying rich tributes to Swami Vivekananda, Minister for Health and Medical Education Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma has said that in very younger age Swami Ji showed the world the true picture of the culture of the Indian society and set an example that service to humanity is service to God. Minister was addressing at a function organised to celebrate 144th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and the foundation day of mission hospital here today. Professor Chaman Lal Gupta former Union Minister of State for Defence and MLC Ravinder Singh were also present. Mr. Sharma said that Swami Vivekananda fought against many social evils like child marriage, Sati Pratha and advocated widow marriage which was become sin in the society. He said though he lived a very short life of 39 years only but he became the revolutionary force for the younger generation. Appreciating the management of mission hospital for its excellent performance and providing treatment to poor and needy the minister said that government alone cannot meet the requirement of the growing population and it is the need of the hour that private investors venture in this sector for which government will provide all possible assistance in setting up health institutions. He said in addition to super specialty hospital for which land has already been acquired and construction work will start soon and offers for setting up 3 private hospitals each at Jammu and Srinagar have been given to private investors under the conditions that they will provide free treatment to 25% of the total patients treated in these hospitals and added that government will provide free land for the hospitals. He announced Rs. 5 lakh for development of the mission hospital and assured that matter regarding pending grant in aid provided by the government will be taken up soon. S.Ravinder Singh in his address paid floral tributes to Swami Vivekananda and said that mission hospital is supporting the government cause by providing upgraded medi-care facilities to the patients. He said government is encouraging private investors in the health sector to provide better health care facilities to the people of state. He said government has also decided to construct Sarai buildings to accommodate patients and their attendants from far-flung areas visiting hospitals at the capital cities and added that for this purpose all legislatures and member parliaments have been asked to contribute funds liberally. He announced to Rs. 3 lakh from his CDF for the development of the hospital. Professor Chaman Lal who is the Chairman of the Mission Hospital giving history of the hospital said that Swami Vivekananda medical mission was founded on 12th of January 1970 by Late Pt. Prem Nath Ji Dogra in a one room accommodation which was now become a full-fledged general hospital with specialities in Gynae, Mother and Child Health care, Paediatrics, Gen. Medicines, Gen. Surgery, Ophthalmology, Dentistry and Diagnostic services like Radiology, Sonography and Laboratory services etc. besides the services of senior and experienced doctors have also been provided around the clock. He said this hospital is running with the voluntarily contribution of the people besides grant in aid provider by the J&K government which helps in sustaining, strengthening the hospitals and providing flip to this noble cause taken up by the mission. Head of the Department Buddhist studies Jammu University Dr. Rakesh Mishra in his address said that Swami Vivekananda made a mission of life that service to poor and needy is service to God and this mission is always prevalent in the society. He asked the younger generation to follow his teachings and work for the betterment of the mankind which is the super-service towards the society. He said we are passing through a very crucial stage and needs another Vivekananda to lead the society to the right direction. On this occasion manager State Bank of India Karan Nagar donated a pact of surgical items and medicines to the hospital.
