J&K Police lifts Christmas Gold Cup Football title | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 12: Jammu and Kashmir Police lifted the 6th edition of the Christmas Gold Cup Football Tournament outplaying Food and Supplies by a solitary goal in the final played at GGM Science College ground, here today. Both sides played a superb game throughout the 90-minute title clash, which entertained the sizeable crowd at the Science College ground. The way both sides launched their aggressive campaign in the decider, it was obvious that the team taking first lead would have better prospects. And, taking lead a minute before the first half whistle in the 44th minute, J&K Police indicated that they have better prospects. The only goal of the match was scored by Fiaz Ahmed. Later, the second half witnessed a dilly dallying battle which helped the cops emerge winner 1-0. The final was officiated by Sudesh Kumar Gupta, Moon Madan, Vijay Kumar and Mohd Shafi. The final was also witnessed by the chief guest, Minister for Transport and CAPD (Food and Supplies), Qamar Ali Akhnoor, who later gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes. In his brief address, Minister congratulated the winner team of J&K Police and complimented the Food and Supplies for their fighting spirit. To boost the police team, Additional Director General of Police, Armed, Law and Order, K Rajendra Kumar was also present. He patted the team for winning the title. Last year the Christmas Gold Cup was won by Jammu and Kashmir Bank beating J&K Forest Department. However, this time both the finalist teams expressed their inability for the event. This tournament was organised by the All J&K Christian Welfare Association under the guidance of Association president, SM Gill.
JKP team leaves for Patna Meanwhile, soon after winning the Christmas Gold Cup, the Jammu and Kashmir football team left for Patna in Bihar to take part in a national competition-Bihar Cup starting from January 15. "In the first match, J&K Police shall be playing against Parag United on January 17," disclosed team coach, Inspector, Ranjit Singh. "The boys are upbeat with today's victory and the side is confident to achieve good results in the upcoming event at Patna in Bihar," said Ranjit. |
