Jammu, Jan 12: Panthers Party activists held one-day special convention on 11th January, 2012 on the death anniversary of the tallest national ranking leader, Lal Bahadur Shastri who died in Tashkent (USSR) on 11th January, 1966 after signing the Tashkent Agreement proving to the world that India has the power to win war with the might of its army and has courage to sign peace with the defeated enemy. Bhim Singh while paying the richest tributes to Shastri ji recollected his meeting with Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri in Delhi a few days before his departure for Tashkent to attend a Peace Conference with Pakistan on the initiative of USSR. He said that Govt. of J&K had issued detention warrants against him for having exposed the J&K Govt. for their anti-people activities. Shastri ji had advised Bhim Singh to stay in Delhi till his return. Bhim Singh, at that time chief organizer of students Congress had submitted a charter of charges against J&K Govt. Shastri ji arranged Bhim Singh's stay in south avenue in the house of an MP. Bhim Singh while addressing the Panthers Party activists described Shastri ji as the greatest leader in every sense of the word. He said Shastri ji grew in poverty, remained in poverty and finally died in poverty leaving no bank balance, residential flats for himself or his family members. He is the symbol of perfect leadership full of moral ethos and selfless work for the upliftment of the entire nation. There is not a single except Ram Manohar Lohia who could match the status and moral values of a leader like Shastri ji. The NPP chief called on the new generation in the country to learn from the life and actions of Shastri ji and particularly those who are in political arena or intend to enter political life to serve the people must live, think, act and perform like Shastri ji. "Bank balances, muscle power rigging election or purchasing seats in the legislature does not make one a leader." This is the message that must go whenever we talk of Shastri ji. |
