Adopt teachings of ‘Swami Vivekananda’, serve mankind selflessly: Sham | | | Early Times Report AKHNOOR, Jan 12: As a part of celebrations in connection with the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, an attractive function was held, here today. The function was organized by the State health department in collaboration with the J&K State AIDS Control Society and Rotary Club Akhnoor. Minister for Health, Horticulture & Family Welfare Sham Lal Sharma was chief guest on the occasion. Hundreds of school/college students from different parts of Akhnoor tehsil, besides large number of doctors, teachers, para-medics and prominent citizens were present on the occasion. While throwing light on the life and contribution of this great saint and social reformer towards the mankind, the Minister said that real tribute to this legendary will to carry forward his mission of eradicating several social evils from the society and serving the mankind selflessly. He asked the youth to adopt the teachings of this great saint in their real life and fulfill his unfinished dreams. He said Swamiji during his life time advocated and fought for social reforms like doing away with Sati Pratha, Bal Vivah, untouchability, corruption and channalizing the youth energy for the social cause. It is the right time for the youth to take lead in this direction and work for strengthening the society and serving the mankind selflessly. The day which is also observed as National Youth Day and they must take a pledge to keep away from the drug and other addictions which are eating the vital of the society, said Sham. Appreciating the efforts of the organizers for arranging awareness programme on AIDS and addiction, the Minister said that such programmes should be result oriented and should not confine under the four walls. The Minister also distributed mementoes amongst the students and volunteers who donated blood.
