NC still trying to buy time for Cabinet reshuffle | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 12: Though much talked about Cabinet reshuffle may take place in last week of this month as the Congress which is the junior partner in coalition government is pressing for the same, the National Conference (NC) leadership including Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah is not much interested in early reshuffle. According to high placed sources the Congress at present is main loser as it has lost the Cabinet berth after the then R&B Minister GM Saroori a close confident of former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad was shown the door in impersonation case over one year back and since then the Ministry is looked by Chief Minister himself. Moreover the strength of Congress ministers in the coalition is less than NC and the important portfolios like Finance, Rural Development, Higher Education and Power, Transport and CAPD, Industry and Commerce and Social Welfare are lying with NC while Congress except Revenue, Health and Irrigation and PHE has no important portfolio, sources said. Sources said though people are facing lot of difficulties as two important ministries R&B and Power are without the Cabinet ministers and it is not practicable for a common man to approach the Chief Minister with their problems who looks after these two portfolios as well but the NC wants to continue with the present arrangements for next three years knowing fully that it will be Congress who will take a lion's share in Cabinet reshuffle. This is the reason that the Chief Minister is trying to buy more time for Cabinet reshuffle, sources said adding as the Party is under constant pressure from Congress for the Cabinet reshuffle to get its due share in Council of ministers the Party is unwilling to make any compromise on Cabinet reshuffle. The Congress, sources said Congress which has a claim over R&B portfolio may also press for Power portfolio be given to the Party and the party leaders as well as legislators have apprised the PCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz about it and asked him that there should be no compromise on the same at this time. Sources said Congress by getting the two important portfolios of R&B and Power wants to consolidate its position more in the state. Hence the senior party leaders from the state besides Prof Soz have taken up this issue with Party High Command in Union Capital also. Sources said the new faces who are in line for to be inducted in council of ministers from Congress are MLA Doda, Abdul Majid Wani, MLA Bhadarwah, Bashir Ahmed Niaz and PCC spokesperson and MLC Ravinder Sharma. The MLA Dooru and former Minister Ghulam Ahmed Mir is also trying his luck and has approached the Congress High Command regarding his case but he has not got any positive indication from Delhi. |
