Cong keen to make changes in Cabinet composition by Feb | Refurbishing new image, rejuvenating party…? - - - KPs assertion: Give political space to community | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 12: Even as the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah three days back ruled out that reshuffle of his council of ministers and expansion of the cabinet was on anvil, the Congress is not in a mood nor can afford to delay the move, pending now for a long time. The party High Command has decided to get this exercise done by February in order to refurbish the image of the party and rejuvenate the demoralized cadres and supporters. Sources said the Congress High Command which is busy right now with finalizing lists and other things related to polls in five states, wants the cabinet expansion in J&K to be effected soon after it gets over with poll related engagements. "The party leadership is well aware of the fact this is over due and a must step in view of the fact that aspirations of large chunk of the party with regard to change of guard has not yet been fulfilled ……..", said a senior leader. The leadership also wants new team with changed look in terms of composition and distribution of portfolios in place to give a new and clean look to matters of governance, sources said adding it was felt at all levels that while NC is seeking more time and delaying the move suits them in more than one way, the party which is already a non beneficiary having two of its cabinet seats vacant, has no valid reason to stretch it further and delay unnecessarily. A senior Congress leader said that by describing reports on impending cabinet reshuffle and expansion was mere rumor Omar had insulted the PCC Chief,Saif-ud-Din Soz,who had four days ago dropped a hint on the expansion and reshuffle in the council of ministers. He said that after the Congress high command assured Omar that it was not contemplating rotational Chief Ministership , the National Conference leadership has been taking the Congress for a ride. Another Congress leader said that in case Omar was not prepared to invite dissensions within the National Conference by keeping the cabinet expansion and reshuffle in abeyance he should allow the Congress to induct two legislators in the council of ministers. While the contenders for the vacant seats and the sitting ministers for either retention of the existing charge or seeking change in portfolios of their liking have started lobbying with concerned quarters, the call from the exiled KP community is also gaining ground that it was time Pandits be given representation in the present dispensation. Pertinently, the call for a space in the political dispensation assumed significance with various KP organizations coming together to form an amalgam that would assert for this 'right' denied at present. The organizations held a meeting two days back under the chairmanship of KP Sabha president AN Sadhu in which a resolution was passed to this effect and it was decided to approach both the allies in the government. The members in the meeting unanimously expressed that induction of a representative from the community into the Cabinet will be a major Confidence Building Measure for the beleaguered community which has been suffering on several fronts. As far the Congress in concerned, sources said it has agreed in principle by the leadership and lately a consensus is developing internally among the leaders who matter in the party and who have direct say in J&K affairs that Pandit representative be accommodated from Valley , since a seat is available from that region in the Congress quota. The Pandit leaders too have been feeling that appropriate representation would facilitate many issues concerning the community mainly dignified return and redressal of other problems which is why the leadership is contemplating the move in this direction. |
