Life-imprisonment awarded to husband for 'wife's killing' | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 12: Principal Sessions Judge Jammu today awarded life-imprisonment and fine Rs 10,000 to Kulwant Singh Krishna Nagar, Miran Sahib who killed his wife with his licensed revolver at his residence on May 9, 2005. Principal Sessions Judge Jammu Jang Bhadur Singh Jamwal today after hearing Special Public Prosecutor JP Nanda for the state whereas Adv RK Kotwal for the accused observed that Special PP JP Nanda argued that the accused committed a very heinous offence. Upon this Court this Principal Sessions Judge Jammu referred various judgments of Supreme Court and observed that The reasons why the community as a whole does not endorse the humanistic approach reflected in death sentence-in-no-case doctrine are not far to seek. In the first place, the very humanistic edifice is constructed on the foundation of reverence for life principle. Secondly, it has to be realized that every member of the community is able to live with safety without his or her own life being endangered because of the protective arm of the community and on account of the rule of law endorsed by it. Observing this court awarded life-imprisonment and fine Rs 10,000 to Kulwant Singh s/o Vishwa Nath Singh r/o Krishna Nagar, Miran Sahib who killed his wife with his licensed revolver at his residence on May 9, 2005. The accused/convict Kulwant Singh also shall suffer rigorous imprisonment for one year and a fine of Rs. 1,000/- (rupees one thousand only) u/s 30 Arms Act, sourt said. According to the police case that accused Kulwant Singh was running an educational institute under the name and style of 'Pragmatic Institute' as also a Printing Press at R.S. Pura and he developed illicit relations with a girl student of his Institute. It is alleged that prior to the occurrence, when the accused asked by the deceased to discontinue with the illicit relations, the accused threatened her and finally to remove the deceased from his way shot dead her with his licensed revolver at his residence on May 9, 2005.
