| Abdullahs to campaign for Congress in UP, Punjab | | While JK is in a mess | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 13: The Congress high Command has started to call shots. The Chief Minister and his father Dr Farooq Abdullah have been urged to campaign for the Congress in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. Can they say no?
The Congress most probably intends to woo the Muslims in Uttar Pradesh by launching the electioneering through Abdullahs. However, in this era of globalization, everybody knows that Farooq Abdullah talked about opening of cinema halls and liquor shops in Kashmir to promote tourism.
What will Farooq Abdullah tell the UP Muslims? Of course he will find it very difficult to urge them to go to mosque five times a day. Farooq has mastered the art of dancing and that is the only thing he can do with authority. But his dancing may not go well with Muslims in UP who are considered knowledgeable as compared to Muslims in rest of India.
Omar is facing problems at home. His arch rivals, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) is gaining ground in the Valley. A few days ago as many as 100 NC activists joined PDP in his constituency. He has yet to come clear in the Haji Yusuf killing in which Justice Bedi resumed probe yesterday.
At this point of time, the Congress high Command should not have asked the mauled Abdullahs to campaign for them . But Omar has been recently given extension for another three years. He will have to go. But what happens in Jammu Kashmir while he is away remains to be seen. |
