| Jammuites celebrate Lohri with traditional religious fervour | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 13:- Different organizations including the Department of Tourism in collaboration with Raghunath Bazaar Business Association today celebrated Lohri Festival with great enthusiasm traditional fervor here today
The Department of Tourism in collaboration with Raghunath Bazaar Business Association organized special function to mark the auspicious occasion of Lohri at Raghunath Bazaar Chowk Jammu here today.
On the occasion, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Pawan Kotwal was the chief guest while as MLA East Ashok Khajuria was also present. The 3-day Lohri festival is being organized to showcase the cultural heritage of Jammu.
Speaking on the occasion, the Divisional Commissioner said that these events are being organized to showcase the unique cultural ethos and heritage of Jammu besides promoting cultural tourism in the State.
DC Jammu said Lohri is not a religious festival, but a celebration marking the end of an intense winter. Meanwhile all bazaars have been illuminated by different Bazaars business associations.
Huge bonfires are lit in the Raghunath Mandir Chowk and people gathered around the rising flames, make round (parikrama) of the bonfire and offered the fire God the traditional offerings.
Other attractions of the day were ethnic food stalls and cultural items, illumination of Raghunath Bazaar, food stalls by Hotel Association, Private parties and JKTDC.
Among others, Director Tourism, R S Mehta, Provincial President National Conference Rattan Lal Gupta, President Raghunath Bazaar Association Surinder Mahajan, President Chamber of Commerce Y V Sharma.
In a similar Lohri celebration Air Force School Jammu celebrated Lohri at nursery wing with great enthusiasm. A bon fire was lit which signifies spark of life and prayers were offered for prosperity in life. Vikesh Sandhal, Principal Air Force School, Jammu extended his best wishes to students & staff on this occasion of Lohri & Makar-Sankranti which holds a great importance and is considered auspicious by all. Dogri Bal Manch celebrated Lohri in Jammu University, Department of Dogri. Students, scholars, professors offered offering to fire as per rituals. Shiv Dev Manhas, HOD of Dogri greeted students and distributed traditional sweets and other eateries among students. Dean Student Welfare NK Tripathi was the chief guest on this occasion. Dean Students Welfare N K Tripathi congratulated head of department and students and extended his wishes to them.
In another Lohri celebration programme Modern Secular Institute of Education (High School) Laxmi Puram, Chinore Jammu today celebrated the Festival of Lohri with enthusiasm and fervor. A bonfire was lit and all offered prayer for the peace and prosperity for the people of nation.
The Managing Director of the Institute Kuldeep Kumar laid stress on the conservation of Culture. The State President Milchar Front, S N Saproo also spoke on the occasion.
The students of the school presented colorful cultural items to mark the occasion.
The Lohari festival is being celebrated with zeal and zest at Kathua in traditional manner. The market presented a new look and were decorated aptly to the occasion.
The administrator of a college of education Avtar krishan Trisal, an educationist and the president Savior of Innocent Labour (SOIL) Smt Preeti recalled their times and expressed their extreme that the new generation though partially is trying to carry forward the old traditions of festivity of Lohri.
Meanwhile Trikuta Nagar Society ,Ward No 53 celebrated the Lohri festival under the Banner of Trikuta Nagar Welfare Society -Sector -01 , with Full enthusiasm and fervour, here today.
Trikuta Nagar Welfare Society President Vinod Mahajan extending greeting said Lohri is an important component of our composite cultural heritage which strengthens the bonds of communal harmony and brotherhood. Large number of people from Trikuta Nagar Society gathered outside temple at Khow wali Gali ,Sector -01 and attended the Lohri celebrations with Lohri bonfires while performing religious rituals.
Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha also celebrated Lohri festival today at Sabha premises where prominent citizens jointly gathered on the occasion and celebrated the festival with traditional gaiety and favour.
The President Ved Parkash Sharma and Shakti Dutt Sharma General Secretary of the Sabha extended Lohri greeting to the people of Jammu.
In another similar occasion the Gangyal BJP Unit organized of Lohri Millan programme at Gangyal Jammu under the chairman ship of Baldev Singh Billawarie ex Sarpanch and Conveneer BJP Panchyat at Raj cell J&K. State President BJP Sameshar Singh Manhas and National Executive BJP Dr Nirmal Singh attended occasion as special invitees. A large number of people from adjoining localities participated in this Lohri Milan.
Shri Sanatan Dharm Sabha-Geeta Bhawan Parade Ground Jammu also organized special programme to Mark Lohri celebrity wherein Ashok Khajuria was the chief guest. The cultural programme was presented by the children of S B Sabha High School S D Tarapuri Public High School Gandhinagar.
The prominent General Secretary, Sat Pal Singh, Pawan Pandhoh, Bodh Raj Sharma Secretaries, Dr B.R Sharma, Judge Paviter Singh, Ved Parkash Sharma, Suchet Singh Purshotam Dadeechi participated in the function. |
