'New trend in militancy, militants going hi-tech IT: IGP N-Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 14: Stating that there is 90 per cent decline in militancy here in North Kashmir's Bandipora district, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir, Muneer Ahmed Khan Saturday said militants are now getting hi-tech in view of growing technology in the world. "We have witnessed 90 per cent decline in militancy in the Bandipora district which was once hub of militancy, but the enemies of peace are still alive who don't want people to live in peace," Khan told reporters while giving details about the of Territorial Army Man killed in Naidkhi on 24th November last year. "There is new trend in the militancy, they are fighting now on technological grounds and are providing special computer trainings to the newly recruits to fight keeping technological developments in view," Khan said. "We have recently arrested two people who visited Pakistan with a specific motive of receiving computer training to fight with novel ways in the State," the DIG said adding "Kashmir police is always prepared to face the challenges". Responding to a question, he said: "Sopore was once considered as the nucleus of the militancy, now we have squeezed them. Militancy in Sopore is now limited to few grenade attacks and landmine blast which shows their (militants) weakness." "They always resort to civilian damage in Sopore," he claimed. Commenting on the target killings, Khan said, "These incidents will happen as few people who are enemies to peace are still alive. , we are keeping eye on the situation and there is nothing to worry." Earlier he claimed to have solved the murder of Territorial Amy Man Reyaz Ahmed Lone who was killed by unidentified man on November 24 last year near Bus Stand Naidkhi. Two civilian were also injured during the incident. He said four persons indentified as Tariq Ahmed Wani, Ghulam Muhammad Wani, Muhammad Yousuf Dar and Ghulam Hassan Wani were found involved in the killing. He said all the identified except Muhammad Yusuf Dar were arrested in connection with the killing and are being questioned. "Acting on these clues, police arrested Tariq, who during questioning named Ghulam Muhammad Wani, Muhammad Yousuf Dar and Ghulam Hassan," he said. He described the main motive of the killing as an effort to revive target killings in the area. The main task of these modules was to kill respectable persons of Sumbal, Naidkhi and Hajin area so that a fear psychosis is created, he said. He said Dar one of the accused is still absconding, but would be arrested soon. We have recovered weapon of murder from the arrested persons, he said. The DIG said Tariq and Ghulam Muhammad have remained involved in militancy related incidents in Srinagar, Sopore, and Sumbal. The arrested men were also booked under PSA, he said. |
