PDD conduct surprise checking, seizes illegal electrical gadgets | People protest against PDD drive, block NH for two hours | | Early Times Report
KISHTWAR, Jan 14: People of Hullar village in Kishtwar District took to streets today against the move of Power Development Department Kishtwar which conducted the surprise checking in the village and seized large number of illegal electric appliances including local made heaters, boilers and room heaters. The agitating people led by Congress Sarpanch Noor Mohammad blocked the National Highway outside the office of Superintendent Engineer PDD Kishtwar circle for more than two hours resulting into traffic chaos on ever busy road. The agitating people's plea that they should be allowed to make use of such electric appliances during winter and argued that before seizing such electric appliance from them, the other peoples in Kishtwar too be prevented to make use of any such appliances. When contacted Subash Sharma SE Kishtwar circle said that department has conducted the surprise checking in the said village after 4 transformers of 100 KV got damaged in last one month. He said that 52 number connections are registered in the said village on this 100 KV transformer which is more than sufficient as per the registered load. He said that after regular damage of transformers, the department swung into action and recovered large number of electric gadgets used illegally by the local inhabitants. He said that beside seizure of illegal electric appliances, the department also removed some illegal hocking and warns the consumers about continuous theft of electricity. He assured the agitating people that they were not only the target and informed them that the department is going to conduct such surprise raids at other places as well in coming days. He said that move of the PDD department is within the ambit of the law and said that he had issued direction to concerned XENs of Kishtwar circle to conduct regular surprise raids in residential areas particularly non metered areas and prevents the theft of electricity. Later with the intervention of police and District Administration, the protestors disbursed off peacefully.
