Girls PYKKA meet- A lackluster event | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 14: The inter-district state level competition in two disciplines of handball and hockey for below-16 girls under PYKKA (Panchayat Youth Krida and Khel Abhinyan), turned out to be a flop show with only one team reported to the host Jammu district, here today. Organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), the two-day competition could not take place because of non-serious administrators at the district level. "Only team that too consisted of eight players, reported from Anantnag district, so we could not hold the competition. We cannot even send the team from same district for forthcoming nationals because it is short of full required strength," said Assistant Director, incharge PYKKA, Mohd Din The way this state level event ended in a fiasco speaks high about the lack of coordination at the district level to take maximum benefit out of this Centre sponsored scheme. "Since districts were offered seven to eight disciplines under the Centre sponsored scheme and most of them have not conducted hockey and handball events. "Most of the district have not conducted hockey and handball events in girls sections, resulted into poor participation," disclosed incharge competition, district officer Jammu, Tirath Ram. However, the department has decided to send boys teams for the participation in national level competition in under-16 hockey and handball to be held at Aurangabad in Maharashtra from January 19. The teams shall proceed for the venue on January 16. |
