Big win for Challenger Club in Reasi Cup

JAMMU, Jan 14: Challenger Cricket Club (CCC), Jammu scripted a huge win by 101 runs over Akhnoor Cricket Club (ACC), Akhnoor to move into the next round in the ongoing Reasi Cup Cricket Tournament 2012, being organised by Reasi Cricket Club in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) at Sports Stadium, Reasi.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Challenger Club scored a decent total of 161 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Right-hand opening batsman Sandeep was the top scorer with 41 runs including 4 boundaries, while left-handed elegant batsman Radheyshyam made 35 runs with four hits to the fence. Rakesh Koul also contributed 21 runs to the total. For Akhnoor Club, Roshan took 2 wickets, while Sunny claimed one. The other three batsmen were run out, courtesy, brilliant fielding effort by the Akhnoor Club players.
While chasing a mammoth total of 162 runs, Akhnoor Club bundled out for a paltry total of 60 runs and lost the match by a big margin of 101 runs. Billawar Singh (11) and Deepak and Ashok 9 runs each were the main contributors for Akhnoor Club. The trio of Ashwani, Gurvinder Singh and Amit plotted the collapse of Akhnoor team by bowling with superb line and length. Gurvinder bowled four overs and took 3 wickets by conceding 19 runs, while Ashwani was more economical and scalped 3 wickets by giving away just 11 runs in his four overs. Amit claimed 2 wickets in his 1.2 overs, conceding only two runs.
Medium pace bowler, Ashwani of Challenger Club was adjudged man of the match for his fabulous bowling display.
Riyaz Malik and Balwinder Singh officiated the match as umpires, while Veeru maintained the scorebook and Madan Thakur was the commentator. The tournament is being organised under the supervision of Nadeem Bhat, chairman organizing committee, Vikas Sharma and Vikas Baru.
