Why are Lists of corrupt officials still awaiting action?

Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 14: When Mufti Mohammad Syed was the chief minister of the State, the government prepared a list of corrupt officers and removed them from key postings to provide relief to the general public and to protect the administration from the epidemic of corruption.
In contrast to this, the present State government headed by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also claimed to have prepared a list of corrupt public servant, but neither took any action against them nor removed them from key postings. It is like preparing a list of corrupt officials and then conveniently ignoring any punitive action against them.
It is not that the corrupt officials those have been bringing a bad name to the State government are hidden from the eyes of the government. Corruption is one thing nobody can either hide or prevent from being noticed. The reputation of an honest government officials travels far and wide and so does the notoriety of a corrupt official. There is hardly any administrative secretary or for that matter, any minister who does not know the names and the activities of the corrupt officials working under their control. There is just one explanation for a corrupt official continuing at key posting and that is either the patronage of the concerned minister or that of the administrative secretary. Corruption can neither be effectively controlled nor can the poor people be protected from the jaws of the corrupt officials as long as they enjoy the patronage of the ministers and the secretaries in charge of various administrative departments. The present government took office in January 2009 with the promise that its first and foremost priority would be to weed out the corrupt elements from the administration.
Three years have passed, lists of corrupt officials and those with shady reputations are available with the State government, but no example setting punitive action has been so far taken against any of these officials. It is only to be believed that either the corrupt officials are so powerful that the State government finds itself helpless in breaking their nexus or the top bosses are patronizing the corrupt officials as they are the source of the millions shared at various levels of the administration by robbing the exchequer of the precious funds meant to be used for the welfare of the poorest of the poor in the State.
