4 of family charred to death, minor girl sustains burns in devastating fire | | | Early Times Report Jammu/kishtwar, Jan 14: A man, his wife, their minor daughter and a son were burnt alive while their another daughter survived with severe burns in a devastating fire that completely burnt their house at Kadailoo near Ligri in the remote Paddar area of Kishtwar late Saturday night. In the fire, at least 10 more houses were damaged. Nearly 40 animals also perished, official sources said. Sources said fire broke out in the house of Chamail Singh (30) late last night when the family was in sleep. The fire was caused by the wood which Chamail had burnt to keep the family warm in the sub-zero temperature, the sources added. The flames soon engulfed the whole house as a result of which Chamail, his wife Samita, their daughter Sharmila (6) and son Mohinder Singh (4) were charred to death. Their another minor daughter Urmila Devi was, however, lucky enough to survive the tragedy. She was undergoing treatment at primary health centre, Atholi. Deputy commissioner, Kishtwar, Mohammad Hussain Malik said after the matter came to his notice in the morning, a team led by tehsildar, Paddar, and SHO of Atholi police station was rushed to the spot. It took the team more than four hours to reach the village. Later, DC, SP (Kishtwar) and DFO (Kishtwar) flew to the village to take stock of the situation. He said as per the reports given to him by the people, at least 10 residential houses were completely damaged in the blaze. He said the bodies were later extricated from the debris and cremated in the village. An immediate relief of Rs 40,000, 50 blankets, 10 kitchen sets, 10 furnaces and 50 kilograms of ration per affected family were distributed. The deputy commissioner said the Paddar tehsildar had been directed to camp in the village till the rehabilitation process of the affected families was over. He said another team headed by ACR, Kishtwar, was on its way to the village along with more relief material. MLA (Kishtwar) Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo has demanded a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the affected families. Meanwhile, BJP leader Sunil Sharma and his party workers arranged 30 blankets, warm clothes and a cash of about Rs 34,000 for the affected families. |
