Biting frost, the hot topic for Jammuites

Jammu, Jan 15: Nothing except the biting frost has been the hot topic with Jammuites today and even for some days since earlier also.
The sudden plummeting of the temperature to the unexpected Fahrenheit has thrown everything including life out of the gear for Jammuites who seldom have witnessed such transitioning of the climate in the recent past years.
Like some other cities of North India, besides Kashmir, Jammu too is reeling under severe winter chill these days.
The winters, however, normally are not so harsh in Jammu as compared to hilly terrain and the other parts of the valley , but the start of the New Year has brought more chill to the winter capital. It being a cause beyond human efforts to be ward off, yet many of the facets that could have been brought under immediate control to arrest the damage and loss of life, nothing is being done on any administrative level on this account. " If such condition would persist for another day, I would not be sending my child to school," rues Malini Gupta at Ambphalla whose second standard girl child studies in Army school Nagrota.
The winters have had a heavy toll of the normal life in the city; arrival and departures of trains, flights, and buses is a common scene. However, the welcome brief spell of showers in the first week brought slight cheer on the faces of the farmers, while the city dwellers also felt some respite with the mercury swelling a bit.
The effect can easily be observed as the attendance in the schools and colleges decreased from the normal one.
The people could be seen shivering on the roads while trying to reach their destination. Many of the shopkeepers have closed their shops as the cold weather condition has affected the number of people coming out for shopping.
Whereas the truck drivers on the highway said that they are helpless to work in this extreme cold as they have to make money for their family.
"Though it is dangerous to work in the foggy conditions but we have no choice, we have to work to earn living", said a driver, Tajinder Singh.
In past few days the cold wave conditions have gripped the entire Jammu and Kashmir, with the mountainous areas receiving heavy snowfall while plains too have received good amount of rain fall.
Weatherman says that these conditions will continue for next over a week as a strong western disturbance is passing over the region.
