| BJP leadership in Kashmir a disgruntled lot, lacks support from national leaders | | | Early Times Report
SRINGAR, Jan 15: Due to lack of moral support from the Party leadership at national level, the BJP unit in Kashmir is a disgruntled lot and rudderless ship bereft of any future plan and course of action to rejuvenate Party unit in trouble-torn Valley.
The situation is limping back to normalcy in militancy ravaged Kashmir which witnessed a lot of destruction and devastation due to Pakistan sponsored proxy war over 22 years back and leaders of various political parties are visiting the length and breadth of the Valley apprising people of their respective party' s programmes and policies, the BJP leadership in Valley lacks guidance from the High Command regarding its future course of action.
The BJP is no longer untouchable for the people of Valley and this concept had changed after Atal Behari Vajpayee led the NDA coalition at Centre and took a keen interest in resolving the Kashmir issue in an amicable manner, said a senior BJP leader from Kashmir.
He said people of Valley still have a lot of regard for Vajpayee who had said that he wants to hold talks with Kashmiris on the basis of humanity (Insaniyat Key Dayray Key Andar Kashmiris Key Satbaat cheet Hogi) and who started the peace initiative with neighboring Pakistan by talking his bus yatri to Lahore in 1998.
The BJP could perform better in Kashmir provided the Party leadership in Delhi gets a proper feed back and concentrate on strengthening the Valley unit believe the grass root Party activists in Kashmir. ``But our leaders are not given the free hand in taking on to the National Conference (NC) led coalition and whenever the issue is raised with the central leadership of the Party the avert it'', said another Party activist from South Kashmir who has resigned from the NC and joined BJP on the peace initiative of Vajpayee.
He said the greatest problem the Party leadership facing in Kashmir Valley is that they have not been provided the proper security. Even the Valley president who quit a prestigious government job to serve the Party and people of the Valley is without the proper security and bullet proof vehicle, he added.
In comparison to that the ordinary leaders of NC and Congress have been given every kind of facility by the government including the security, he said adding, ``though we raised the issue before the Party High Command at Delhi but they failed to take up the issue with the state government''.
``How the people will trust our leaders when we have no say even in Party and when our leaders have been given a raw deal by Central leadership also'', he asked?
He said if the Central leadership takes the initiative the BJP in Kashmir will emerge a force to reckon with as the people of the Valley are fed up with the Omar led coalition government and the BJP can take the issue of dynastic rule by NC leadership right from Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah by exploiting the common Kashmiris on emotive issues.
No political party in Kashmir has raised this issue as Congress as well as PDP is involved in promoting dynastic leadership while the BJP is the only party which has no such allegation attached to it, he said adding the people in Valley are totally opposed to dynastic rule and once BJP rakes up this issue it can make inroads in political bastions of NC and PDP.
