Mirwaiz's cry over AFSPA goes unheard….? | Chief Minister is there to rake it again at 'appropriate' time…..! | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 15: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who leads NC in the ruling coalition has been playing 'ding dong' politics with separatist leaders on a host of political issues which generate heat in Kashmir . As Omar knows it well that it is mainly 'separatist' and 'separatism' oriented agenda that sells in Kashmir, he and his party has been snatching and parroting the things which originate from the Hurriyat camps. AFSPA is one such issue which Omar virtually snatched from the Hurriyat conference top leaders and 'played it well' before the 'audience'. So no matter Mirwaiz Umer Farooq chairperson of the moderate conglomerate of Hurriyat Conference has once again sought revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), this would be shortly followed and trumpeted by the Chief Minister, once it starts gaining steam in the otherwise calm political environs of the valley. The harsh winter conditions have in fact chilled the political atmosphere to freeze for now and nobody is actually bothered about AFSPA- revocation or no revocation , at least for now is no issue to common masses but as it is for their survival and existence, the political players keep the ball rolling on field with occasional momentum to it. This explains why Mirwaiz has raised up the demand yet again . It is pertinent to mention that this was one of the demands of the cleric in his four point formula presented to the government of India after 2010 summer agitation. The chairman of Hurriyat G) syed Ali geelani also demanded repeal of what he called draconian law.It remained in subdued form until in October last year when it turned into a huge controversy. For it was Chief Minister himself who raked it up to the hilt, stunning all the political quarters in state and even its own ally Congress .New Delhi was also taken by surprise the way Omar Abdullah conducted himself over the issue without deeming it proper to consult the partner leave aside discussing the same with stakeholders first. However, Omar succeeded in what he wanted to do- to be among the first to strike chords of emotive issue much before Hurriyat Conference leaders could raise the issue . The Chief minister did not stop here only. He even challenged the separatists amid a controversy when on one side armed forces, defence established put some resistance over the proposed move seeking time and debate before things could actualize. When the separatist camp also put their foot at that time when nod did not come through from New Delhi, the Chief Minister dared the separatists and others accusing them of playing double. The separatist in fact need not worry even if the Chief Minister snubs them frequently. For it is he who is easing out and facilitating things for them on all issues that are core to their ideology. Be it maintaining separate , undiluted identity of the state (the stand he adopted during Amarnath land row in 2008) or the uproar over the issue of hanging of Afzal Guru, the convict in Parliament attack, or the ever controversial AFSPA revocation, Omar Abdullah is doing the job himself, no matter it also ahelps him divert the attention of people from issues of mis governance.
