State hockey, handball teams leave for PYKKA Nationals | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 16: The J&K state hockey and handball teams today left for Aurangabad in Maharashtra to participate in the 4th Nationals to be held under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Panchayat Yuva Krida and Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA) from January 19 to January 22. The J&K contingent comprising of 28 players and 2 officials will be participating in PYKKA Nationals for the first time. The contingent included 16 players of under-16 years' boys hockey team and 12 players of boys handball team. Jarnail Singh and Gourav Sharma are accompanying the contingent as manager and coach respectively. It is pertinent to mention here that J&K teams were selected during the inter-district competitions held at Jammu University grounds under the supervision of Mohd Din, PYKKA incharge and deputy director youth services and sports and Tirath Ram, district youth services and sports officer, prior to the departure of the teams. "Though, the 4th National PYKKA meet is to be held in three sports disciplines of handball, hockey and archery, yet J&K managed to send the teams of hockey and handball only as archery probable, who had to come from Kargil, could not turn up due to inclement weather conditions," said Mohd Din. |
