DGP declares Youth Promotional Sports Camp open

JAMMU, Jan 16: Aimed at promoting sports culture among the youth of the state, "Week-long Youth Promotional Sports Winter Camp" being organised by Jammu and Kashmir Police, was declared open at Police Auditorium by Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda here today.
250 students drawn from various districts of the state are participating in the camp, being organized under civic action programme.
Addressing the inaugural function, the DGP stressed upon the participants to seize the opportunity and exceed in different sports activities included in the camp. He said that sports provide a greater career prospects in the present times besides building mental and physical capabilities, adding that sports arena has remained one of the thrust areas of Jammu and Kashmir Police and the organisation has been carrying out various activities in different parts of the state to cultivate sports talent among the youth, he added.
The DGP said that sports help in channelling the talent and energy of the youth and JKP has been playing a vital role in this direction. The Organisation, besides augmenting basic facilities for the youth, has been providing sports kits and free coaching to the talented youth to make them able and excel in the national level tournaments, said Khoda.
Khoda said that the camp would provide an opportunity to the participants who represent different regions of the state, to interact and know about their culture. He said that the camp would also flourish their energy to work together for the betterment of the society. Giving the details, the Additional Director General of Police Armed/Law & Order, K. Rajendra Kumar said that the sports camp would last for 7 days and culminate on January 22, 2012. Various sports activities have been included in the camp viz. football, volleyball, handball, basketball and kabaddi. During the week-long camp the participants would be provided free boarding lodging, and refreshment. Besides sports activities the participants would go for mountaineering, site seeing and picnic during the camp. The participants have been chosen from various districts across the state including the poor pockets and far flung areas, said the ADGP. He disclosed that in all 250 children are participating in the camp, out of which 10 each are from district Poonch, Reasi, Doda, Ramban and Rajouri, 50 from district Jammu and 150 from different districts of valley. He said that the camp would provide the participants a better environment to carry out their sports activities, which are hampered in cold regions during the winter.
The function was attended by Additional Directors General of Police, Dr S P Vaid and D R Doley, Inspectors General of Police, Dilbag Singh, Ashok Kumar Gupta, Arun Kumar Chowdhary and Gulzar Singh Salathia, Deputy Inspectors General of Police, K. K. Saini, Alok Puri, A. Q. Manhas, Yoginder Koul, P R Manhas, Johnney William, President, J&K Football Association, Zameer Thakur, Secretary, Sports Council,, Kiran Wattal and senior police officers.
