Several thousand vehicles stranded on Kashmir highway | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 16 : Thousands of vehicles, mostly trucks, remained stranded on the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, which has again been closed due to heavy snowfall since yesterday. Hundreds of tourists and other passengers, also remained stranded in Srinagar, Jammu and other places on the highway, the only road linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country. The highway remained closed completely for the second day today due to heavy snowfall and slippery road conditions, official sources said. They said two to four feet of fresh snowfall was recorded at Qazigund, Banihal, Jawahar tunnel and Shantan nallah. They said several thousand trucks, loaded with essentials besides oil and LPG tankers were stranded at Jammu, Udhampur, Batote and other places on other side of the tunnel. Hundreds of Srinagar-bound tourists and other passengers were also stranded at Jammu and other places. Similarly, hundreds of trucks loaded with fruits and empty oil and LPG tankers were stranded in Srinagar, Qazigund, Anantnag and other places on this side of the tunnel. |
