5 days workshop on Orientation Programme held

Jammu , Jan 16: National Translation Mission, Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore in collaboration with Post Graduate Deptt. of Dogri, University of Jammu, Jammu organized a Five days workshop on Orientation Programme for Translation in Dogri. The inaugural function of the said workshop was held today in the Seminar Hall of P.G. Deptt. of Computer Science, University of Jammu, Jammu. The main aim & objectives of this workshop is to find out translators in Dogri for Knowledge Text Translation. Dr. Suresh Dhingra, Professor in Translation Studies in DU, the Chief Guest on the occasion, highlighted the importance of these workshops for Translation. Earlier Prof. Shiv Dev Singh Manhas, HOD Dogri and Local Coordinator of the workshop delivering his address on this occasion said that the workshop in question is of immense importance in the Dogri field and further appealed to the participants to do the work with very honesty and dedication. He also welcomed all the participants and other dignitaries present on the occasion for the successful culmination of this workshop which will be concluded on 20th of January, 2012. The coordinator and representative of the Dogri language from NTM, Sunil Choudhary in his address said that translation work on all the languages, which are in the eighth schedule of the Indian constitution is in progress besides this the work on translation of knowledge text in all the regional languages of the country is being got done. Prof. Lalit Mangotra, President of Dogri Sanstha, Jammu while addressing to the participants on the occasion, said that this workshop is first of its kind in Dogri language. Stressing further on the issue, he elaborated that medium of instruction in Education should be in Dogri and also text books must be in Dogri so that the local people could be able to grasp the knowledge easily that of other languages. Prof. Champa Sharma, former HOD Dogri who presided over the inaugural session of the workshop delivering her address said that it is a matter of pride that work like this is being done by the NTM. Satish Verma, Research Scholar of P.G. Deptt. of Dogri presented vote of thanks. Among those who were present in the programme include Prof. Champa Sharma, Prof. Lalit Mangotra, Prof. Shiv Dev Singh Manhas, Dr. Manoj, Prof. Shalini Gupta, Prof. Saransh.
