NC ministers held up or for situation 'assessment' in Kashmir......? | Weather vagaries and coalition compulsions! Soz directs senior party ministers to rush to Valley | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 16: The inclement weather conditions have once again put the state machinery on toes in order to ensure best possible services and supplies to areas affected by fresh snowfall. While the two ministers of ruling National Conference are already in Srinagar, J&K PCC chief Prof Saif-u-Din Soz has directed senior ministers of his party to rush to Kashmir Valley and provide helping hand to the state administration. While the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has chosen this time to take assessment of the prevalent situation through video conferencing with inputs provided about snow bound districts from his senior minister Ali Mohammad Sagar and Divisional Commissioner , the PCC chief too has directed his ministers to be present there and do whatever possible to provide some relief to the masses in hardships on various fronts. Prof Soz's direction to the two ministers Taj Mohiudin and Peerzada Mohammad Syed is being seen in the political quarters to ensure presence of Congress in the affected areas in particular and Kashmir Valley in general where it is almost 'NC show' with three ministers of the party who were camping for the last few days. Apart from Rural Development Minister , Higher Education Minister Abdul Ghani Malik and Social Welfare Minister Sakina Itoo took stock of the things and situation arising out of terrible weather conditions for the last three days. While Sakina has left for Delhi , two other NC ministers are still in Kashmir Valley, apparently on the directive of the Chief Minister to stay back for more days till some respite is felt in terms of availability of essential supplies as and when the Highway is through for traffic. However, sources said both NC ministers who are not on normal roster duty this time are actually held up in Valley due to snapping of communication links both roadways as well as airways. This has come as a benefit for the NC as a party for they are able to show it to the people and their constituencies in particular that they are truly concerned which is why its ministers are camping in Valley. The Congress leadership having apparently taken cognizance of the fact that party presence should be in Valley in times of crisis promptly dashed the letter to two senior minister, both of who belong to Kashmir region. Though it has been given to understand that the two ministers are on way to Srinagar, which at the moment looks unlikely due to unfair weather not allowing road traffic or flights, the PCC chief has also directed one more senior minister of the party Raman Bhalla to rush to Srinagar and stay there for a week's time and make himself available to people facing difficulties. The Revenue and Rehabilitation Minister is scheduled to be there under roster duty along with one MOS from NC. While the two ruling allies are doing their bit to make the ministers available, perhaps with the good intention, the presence of the ministers and even Chief Minister and their instructions loaded with 'dos and don'ts ' is being seen as hampering the work of administrative machinery, besides making them work in different directions. A coalition compulsion indeed ! |
