ISI agent among two arrested from Narwal, Jammu | Delhi's 8 crore fake currency catch | | Sumit Sharma
Jammu, Jan 17: Two persons including an ISI agent have been arrested from Narwal area in a raid that was conducted jointly by special cell of Delhi police and Special Operation Group (SOG), Jammu here today. Sources said that the said duo was also wanted by Delhi police in pumping of fake currency in India through trade (Chakan-da-Bagh) from Pakistan via Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and a case in this regard stands registered under FIR NO 1/2011 u/s IPC 121A,120B, 489 ABC. Sources added that Delhi police too is on hunt of UP based person involved in pumping fake currency in India. The fake currency racket was busted a couple of week ago, sources said, when customs officials scrutinizing some cloth pieces in which the currency was tucked in between two-layered clothes. The notes were of 500 and 1000 denominations and counterfeit Indian currency with a face value of over Rs six crore was recovered by officials and two persons were arrested in south-west Delhi. Further giving details the sources identified the arrested duo namely as Ghulam Mohd son of Abdullah of Mandi, Poonch (an ISI agent) and Yaqoob Ahmed son of Showkat Ali of Narwal. “Duo was arrested from Narwal area and immediately was dispatched to Delhi from Sampark Karanti train for their further interrogation in New Delhi, sources said. SP Operation Pawan Parihar when contacted confirming the reports said that it was a joint operation. Ghulam Mohd took the fake currency with him from Poonch and dumped the same in Narwal based godwon. Then with the help of Yaqoob he concealed the consignment in a bundle of clothes and dispatched the same to Delhi for delivery. Worth to mention that the seizure of the counterfeit currency seized by Delhi Police included 33 cloth bundles recovered from Dabri area. According to reports this single seizure almost equals the recovery of fake currency by Delhi Police in the past five years. Police seized fake currency with a face value of Rs 8.39 crore, USD 5,800 and 2,000 Euro in the past five years and the recent seizure is one of the biggest hauls in the country. It is tom mention that Delhi Police is in constant touch with CBI and RBI in connection with this seizure, sources added. They said the notes might have entered the country through the porous Indo-Nepal border. |
