National Cricket Club felicitates players | | | JAMMU, Jan 17: For its remarkable achievements in domestic tournaments, especially for securing 3rd place in the prestigious Jammu and Kashmir Premier League (JKPL) last season, the National Cricket Club (NCC), Jammu felicitated its players at Press Club, here today. Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Kiran Wattal was chief guest in the felicitation function, who distributed bags among the players of National Cricket Club, while president of the club, Prof Ashutosh Sharma presided over the function. Prominent among others present on the occasion were Shamboo Nath Sharma, vice chairman JKCA, Jammu Wing, Sunit Sharma, Ravi Kant, Naresh Gupta, Sharat Chander, Prem Kumar and Harsh. While appreciating the NCC players for their landmark achievements, Wattal said that sports and games apart from shaping careers of many sportspersons, help in producing healthy youth. He said that the government’s initiative of organizing Kashmir Premier League (KPL) provided a launching pad for cricketers of rural areas to play at the bigger circuit of the game, adding that the tournaments like KPL and now Jammu Premier League (JPL) can help the state to produce cricketers of quality in the future. Prof Ashutosh Sharma while speaking on the occasion said that this function is just a tip of an ice-berg as the club will be celebrating its “Golden Jubilee” for completing its 50 years of establishment very soon. “In the Golden Jubilee celebrations, the members of the club have decided to invite the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah alongwith the Sports Minister, RS Chib to honour the outstanding cricketers of the club,” said Ashutosh. Those players who were felicitated included Sanjay Sharma, Kaval Singh, Ranjit Bali, Inderjeet Singh, Pranav Mahajan, Amit Billowria, Manish Dogra, Nitin Mehra, Rohit Bhat, Deepak Singh Manhas, Gokul Baru, Sagar Gupta, Nipun Verma, Vijay Dogra, Anshuman Sharma, Pranav Gupta, Jatin Wadhavan and Manpreet Singh. It is pertinent to mention here that NCC has the honour of producing some outstading cricketers like Kavaljeet Singh, who apart from captaining J&K Ranji trophy team, has represented North Zone in Duleep trophy, Sanjay Sharma, former J&K Ranji trophy captain, Ranjit Bali, an opening batsman to almost a perfection and Inderjeet Singh, ambidextrous Ranji trophy all-rounder, besides other current and former Ranji trophy players of the club.
