SKUAST organized training on profitable strawberry cultivation in Jammu | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, January 17 : The Division of Fruit Science of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu organized one day training programme for the progressive strawberry growers of Jammu sub-tropics under the supervision of Dr. V.K. Wali.
The training programme entitled ‘Technological dissemination for profitable strawberry cultivation under Jammu sub-tropics’ was aimed for profitable strawberry cultivation on scientific lines to fetch early market for better price because of suitable soil and climate conditions in Jammu plains.
Dr. Mahital Jamwal, the principal investigator of the National Horticulture Board funded project ‘Commercialization of soft fruits under Jammu plains through hi-tech production and post harvest management’ organized the training programme at SKUAST-J Campus, Udheywalla, wherein more than fifty farmers of Jammu, Samba and Kishtwar districts participated.
Dr. Jamwal focused on the scope of strawberry cultivation in Jammu sub-tropics besides giving a detailed package of practice for its cultivation in Jammu plains on scientific lines.
Dr. Mukesh Pandey enumerated the approaches to be followed for integrated disease management in strawberry. Dr. Monica Sood demonstrated the participants about the value addition to strawberry by processing them into jam, jelly, juice, ice cream, preserves, candies, freeze strawberry, wine, soft drinks and other products.
Dr. Jamwal proposed a vote of thanks to the participants and acknowledged the National Horticulture Board for assistance and told that the Agriculture University in Jammu is meant to serve the farmer community and they should come forward with their field problems for technical support from the University as and when required.
