| Resolve problems of ReTs, pay higher wages to daily rated employees, don’t remain absent from house: legislators to govt | | | ABHISHEK Jammu, Jan 15 The Zero Hour witnessed a lively debate in the State Assembly today with members raising a number of issues relating to their constituencies. Cutting across the party line members demanded the resolution of the problems faced by the Rehbar-e-Taleem. Commencing the debate CPI(M) MLA M Y Tarigami, asked the government to talk to the representatives of Rehbar-e-Taleeem teachers and discuss the problems being faced by them. He said that ReT teachers were responsible and educated youth and needed help and support from the government. Members from different parties supported Tarigami’s contention and asked the government to implement its assurance which was given last year and raise the honorarium of the ReT teachers. Criticizing the government, National Conference MLA Ali Mohd Sagar alleged that the coalition ministers were not serious towards the state Assembly and instead of listening to the problems of legislators remained mostly absent from their chairs. Neither the Chief Minister nor other members of the cabinet are present in the House, “Aik fauj hai ministron ki. Kahan Rehti Hai woh”, said Sagar. A number of NC members supported Sagar and demanded that the speaker should give a direction to the government in this regard. Replying to the verbal tirade launched by opposition members, veteran Congress leader Mangat Ram Sharma said that these allegations were incorrect and a majority of cabinet ministers were always at hand and participated in the business of the House. He, however, said that the Cabinet Minister also needed to attend the upper House and “this is why the ministers sometimes leave the house”. Unhappy over the reply given by Deputy CM, Sagar staged a walkout saying “Ham is jawab se satisfy nahi hai”. Raising the issue of lack of schools in his constituency, Congress MLA Girdhari Lal said that three blocks in Hiranagar constituency were totally devoid of primary and higher secondary schools. Alleging that the RTI act was non-functional in the state, BJP MLA Jugal Kishore criticized the government for failing to implement the RTI act in letter and spirit. Raising the case of one ‘Chanchal Sharma’, the BJP MLA said that said person had filed an application to get some information six months back, but he has been made to run from pillar to post, but given no information. Meanwhile, Congress MLA Suman Bhagat demanded to know as to why the work of a bridge being constructed over Aik nullah at village Kalayana has been stopped. Lodging startling allegation, Panthers MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia told the house that some official in Udhampur had gobbled crores of rupees through corrupt means. He said that he will provide documented proof of this corruption. Mankotia also demanded that daily wagers should be paid Rs 2100 as wages which was promised by the government. Yashpal Kundal, Panther MLA from Samba alleged that Govt ministers as well as administration were not taking the local MLA in confidence regarding the organization of religious festivals at Purmandal and Uttarbehni. JSM MLA, Ashwani Sharma demanded that the Govt should resolve the problems faced by peasants living in border areas as there movement across the fenced land has been restricted by the BSF. In response to this demand which was supported by a large number of MLAs, the Govt assured that the matter shall be taken up with the defence authorities. An interesting demand was put forth by Panther MLA Harsh Dev Singh, who asked the media persons to click those pictures which presented the proceedings of the House rather than clicking irrelevant pictures. On this, deputy Speaker Mohd Akbar Lone asked the media persons to present the news and pictures of assembly proceedings in a responsible manner. Mir Saifullah of NC asked the govt to clear the controversy regarding the ReT teachers and demanded that there problems should be resolved. Likewise, Dr Mehboob Beig asked the govt to resolve the issues raised by Patwaris and Girdawars, who are also on strike. Mula Ram, former social welfare minister asked the govt to recruit more Urdu teachers as there was great paucity of teachers of this language.
